My Sunday Best

So I didn't exactly go to any crazy effort today but oh well. To be honest I'm just pleased to have found something that fits like I'm supposed to be wearing it. No accessories, no fuss. Still looking for some maternity pants but at least I'm having a little luck with skirts and dresses - might make for a cold winter though.

I'm 21 weeks and 2 days pregnant today. The dress is from Target.

My Sunday Best

So I've hit that really awkward stage in my pregnancy where it's not even worth it to try on pants without drawstrings and everything I try on either makes me look like an exploded can of biscuits or a potato shoved into clothes. I'm finally gaining weight. I'd lost ten pounds at 15 weeks and at 19 weeks I'd gained five of them back so that's encouraging. now I need to dial it back a bit maybe and start thinking of more healthy options. Still battling the queasies though so I'm not going to be too hard on myself.

It was a pretty windy day today but the dress held up (unlike my hair.) both of these items are thrifted. the sweater is 100% silk and cost me $1.00! the dress was under ten. It has a subtle ombre effect and is just really comfortable even though it's kind of a mumu - I'll be able to wear this one for a while.

My Sunday Best: Maternity Edition

So I'm Seventeen weeks and two days pregnant today and the whole family is getting really excited to discover the gender of our little occupant. I'm starting to have some real trouble finding things to wear but here's what I came up with this week.

For some reason it will only let me change the size of the top photo - That's not an editing call on my part.
The Scarf is from Stella Bella Designs on etsy, Jacket - Target. Cami (one that I will be turning into a nursing cami) - Amazon.com. Blouse - Thrifted. Maternity skirt - Thrifted.

My Sunday Best

So here I am 16 weeks and 2 days pregnant and already plotting out my nursing attire for when baby comes. Last time I used a cover and my regular clothes - yes, even underwire bras. My reasoning last time around was that there were virtually zero places to buy nursing wear in our Alaska town. This time, however, I'm forgoing the traditional nursing designs because, well... they're gross. I hate the nursing tanks with the clasps on the straps - so frustrating. I also hate that most nursing shirts are also maternity shirts so that when the baby is out and the idea would ideally be to downplay the size of your belly, you're still wearing huge clothes designed to accentuate your floppy stomach. Why not design affordable nursing shapewear? why not design nursing tanks that can open from the front rather than the top? It seems like common sense to me but clearly I'm alone in this because it's almost impossible to find these things. Solution? I'll make and compile them myself. My other issue with nursing is that of the nursing cover. Yes, I believe in modesty but I also believe in being able to use both of my hands to care for my baby. I also know that those large nursing covers do little to detract attention from a nursing mother, in fact, if you're struggling beneath the cover the movement and odd shaped tent will only attract unwanted attention. Solution? Wear user friendly nursing tank tops (preferably with shape wear.) and flowy or ruffly shirts that will act as their own covers. I'm due in march and I was all jazzed about an infinity nursing scarf, I'm still excited about it, but I'm also due in the spring which means the majority of my early nursing will take place in the summer - not the time to be wearing a scarf everywhere. My whole thing is to embrace simplicity and eliminate unnecessary complications. I don't need a nursing cover to nurse in public comfortably, In fact, I believe it would only be an impediment, so why drag it around? Anyway. I've been thrifting and shopping and pinteresting and here is my first maternity outfit that will eventually double as a cute nursing outfit, although I'm sure I'll stretch out the tank top long before then and need another. I'll be making them and I'll show you how I do it soon!.

I like this blouse a lot because it has long sleeves and the back is super cute, look at the buttons! plus it's flowy enough to act as it's own nursing cover. Even though nothing I'm wearing is designed for nursing mothers, I could easily and comfortably breastfeed while wearing this. plus it's cute maternity wear.

My Sunday Best // A Day at the Air Show

Today was a very nice day so we decided to venture downtown and eat lobster rolls and hot dogs in the park. We weren't exactly close to the airshow but we were still able to see a lot of what happened and it was pretty impressive.

We all wore matching flowers today! Betty's was the biggest.
Here's my dress. It was eight dollars.

Half-Hearted Crafting

I love to be be crafty and creative. I love to paint and draw and can take days or months to work on a project but sometimes, if a project becomes too time consuming, it can remained unfinished and in the way until it's ultimately thrown away or put in storage. This happens mostly when I knit or sew. Because of this, I love quick crafts and it just so happens that I've completed a few recently.

Wall Art

one of my favorite decorations in my house is this piece.
Most of my wall art comes from Goodwill or garage sales but I loved this wallpaper I bought on etsy and so I just bought a poster frame and put it on display. When we get into our own home I'm going to cover the inside with antique wallpaper... and yes I do hope it's pineapple wallpaper.

Bill Sorting A La Martha Stewart:

I really wish I remember the blog I saw this on but I do know that it's originally a Martha Stewart idea. It would have been ideal for me to take the time to search for an antique set of shutters but I wanted it done NOW and old shutters often have lead paint so I went to Home Depot and got these on sale because they were missing the attachment pins - lucky for me I didn't need them.

I nailed them to the wall and voila. Luckily it's right next to the trash bin as well so I don't end up with piles of mail anymore. Yay!

Chalkboard Kitchen Message Board

The craft store in town had a huge sale on chalkboards so I thought this would be cute.
I put some scrap booking poppies on it and then hung it there. I like it.

No Sew Bunting

I love bunting and I want it all over my house but I don't have a working sewing machine right now so I bought some super cheap felt and some yarn and made this string in about twenty minutes.

I've also taken to making bouquets of dried flowers and hanging pictures up with clothes pins. It's amazing how things that are so simple can make such a big difference in a home. Are there any quick crafts that you've done in your home? Let me know!

Stuff From my Mommy

My Mother is a very giving person, not just to me. I'm pretty sure half of Betty's toys came from Grandma. As a thank you, here are some of my favorites of my Mother's gifts, loans and garage sale scores. Thanks Mom!

I've featured this before. My Mom had it for sale in a consignment shop and nobody bought it so she gave it to m and Chad uses it to make his coffee.
We had a spoon rest in Alaska that Chad loved but it broke so my Mom got us this one.
I love this sugar dish but I want to use it for honey... It's super cute but it may have lead based paint so it's just on display for now.
This came in a care package - It's an antique cookie press.
My Mother is "loaning" these to us until she can transport them back to us. They're Roseville Pottery? My Mom found them here in Maine at an estate sale shop.
This is an antique cake cover that belonged to my Great Grandma.
Betty loves these. They were mine when I was little.
 So was this.
My Mom spent her whole trip looking for a little kitchen for Betty and found this at Goodwill on her last day for less than $5.00!
This was a christmas present. It's a denali blanket and I love it! I've washed it so many times and it still looks brand new. These blankets come in ton of different designs and are awesome gifts. here's there website.
My Mom makesthese little lavender sachets. My house is filled with them - They smell so nice.
My Mom bought these boots from Modcloth for me and I LOVE them. Modcloth.com is my very favorite store and there's a bunch of stuff for sale there right now that I'm swooning over. Check it out. There should be a linky on my sidebar or under this post!
My Mom didn't actually give me these but I got the idea from her. I love eucalyptus leaves and my Mom makes really pretty wreaths out of them.
Cute little single egg frying pan. She sent this t us because she knows how much Betty likes eggs.

Thanks Mom!
